Today reminded me of Tyler's birthday almost 8 years ago when we were living in Stansbury. The weather that day had gotten quite windy and I had stepped outside to rescue the garbage can as fences and trees came tumbling down.
I remember the feeling was just eerie and this afternoon's atmosphere had almost that exact feel.
I knew it was going to be windy today. I expected it and brought the garbage can into the garage. I sat inside watching it whip things around the yard and really wishing it would stop. I really don't like the wind. I haven't had a chance to survey the damage yet other than the fact that it rained mud.
You'd think looking out my windows that it was snowing. Erik is going to make bank this weekend cleaning windows. He's already got two jobs scheduled ahead of mine.
I also got a short email from my missionary parents, the first I've gotten in a little while. Apparently, they are experiencing their own Liberty Jail and are using an internet cafe because they've had no power for 4 days and no internet for 10. No power means no water, no toilets, no washing, no fans or air conditioning. It's also been quite muggy from all the rain. I'm sure they've had to get creative with all sorts of things and I'm looking forward to an email detailing this latest experience.
The weather has been fabulously warm. Although I'm afraid my fruit trees are going to get a little confused and begin the budding process.
This was the other night, December 12th to be exact.
And today Tyler brought home a truckful of compost and started spreading it around the yard. I thought I was crazy last year when I mowed my lawn for the last time on December 1; but this year takes the cake.
I seriously am not complaining. I detest the cold in every way. It makes me want to burrow down in my bed and not surface for a good couple of months.
We did get a little snowfall a few days ago,
much to the delight of Ash and Alex who worked tirelessly to build any snowman they could.
He hasn't lasted long.
Every year around Christmas we try to visit Temple Square. It's just a fun tradition we do and the kids admitted to me this time how much they really enjoy going.
And every year I watch the weather; well because I always watch the weather and plan my life around the weather . . . shopping, running, errands, trips out of town, gardening. I really should have been a weather man. All that money wasted on a business degree and my heart really loves weather because frankly it affects every person's life in some way or another.
Okay, that was a bit of a tangent. So last week I was watching the weather and seeing very warm numbers on the screen followed by very cold numbers. Tyler and I made a quick judgment call and decided to hit Temple Square last Sunday. We've been before in freezing cold weather and unquestionably, it just isn't that enjoyable. I don't think we've ever visited on a Sunday and I thought it would kind of quiet. Um, I think I'm not the only weather watcher out there. Anyway, the warm weather made for a very pleasant evening and I'm relishing in those memories at this moment as I write this post and it's a balmy 10 degrees outside only a week later :)
This year we especially loved the luminaries and different nativities. Kiersten especially loved the sign language luminary.
I love this picture. My kids can be such goofballs. But they are my goofballs and I sure do love them.
