Undefeated

Well as quickly as tennis began it seems to have come to an end. And I'm quite sad.

Erik told me the other day that when he joined the team his only goal was to make it out of doubles. He wanted to be playing singles. Never in his wildest dreams did he every imagine that he could go as far as he did.

Region was about a week ago. He was sitting on top playing in the number one spot for junior varsity. Since he was seeded high he only had to play two games. The first was against Grantsville, the same kid he had played three days previously and who gave him a run for his money. He won that match easily. It wasn't even comparable to Monday's game. His next opponent was Bear River and as they were warming up, the kid was asking Erik how old he was and a little surprised when Erik told him he was only a freshman.

Towards the end of their warm up, a group of girls sat down on the bleachers to watch and I was nervous for him. I prayed and hoped he wouldn't let a bunch of girls get to him.

They didn't.

He kept his cool and won.

That win against Bear River earned him first place in region singles for junior varsity.

I don't know. Do you think he was happy with his win?? He tells me that with that final win he didn't lost a match all season long. You're looking at Mr. Undefeated.

I'm excited to see what he'll do next year. Undoubtedly he'll probably be playing varsity. As I was talking to the coach's wife (Erik's coach is also Ashlyn's little league soccer coach), she was telling me how sad he was at the beginning of the season at the thought of losing some of his varsity players. He had some good seniors. What he wasn't anticipating was how good his little freshman team was. They surprised him at how well they did in the St. George tournament against some of the harder competition down there. Coach Jones has got a good group of boys to work with over the next couple of years.
